Art Business.com - Alan Bamberger's website should be a valuable resource for any artist not having an MBA (or equivalent). Among other things, he is a consultant and writer with a site teeming with over 3,000 pages of free content which are related to the business of art. He generously posts these with no requirements for subscriptions or fees of any kind. His information is extremely helpful and accurate; his style of writing refreshing. Check it out and consider a donation to sustain his efforts.
Bill Atkinson.com - Bill is a renaissance man. His Wikipedia entry covers much, but his website says it all. His generosity to photographers by way of all the information he makes freely available through Mac.com is only surpassed by the unbelievably beautiful images he conveys through his vision of even the smallest of things. Check out his images of rocks. Have you ever seen a waterfall in a piece of Pietersite? Thanks, Bill, for everything you've given us. And let us not forget the Hypercard.
Beautiful-Landscape.com - the website of one of our premier landscape photographers, Alain Briot, is a wealth of information for the photographer who focuses on nature as well as on the business of fine art photography. Alain and his wife Natalie conduct numerous workshops throughout The Southwest. In addition to his many articles and essays on Beautiful-Landscape, and on other sites like Michael Reichman's The Luminous-Landscape, Alain has many DVDs and audio CDs of training material and tutorials. He also has written a book on landscape photography entitled Mastering Landscape Photography, published by Rocky Nook. Be sure to check out his Antelope Canyon images as well as the Death Valley and Grand Canyon series. Originally from Paris where he trained at the Academie Nationale des Beaux Arts, and now living in the Phoenix area, Alain and Natalie lived at Canyon de Chelly in the heart of the Navajo Nation for six years which clearly has greatly influenced his amazing work.
Brooks Jensen Fine Arts - Brooks has a beautiful series of portfolios or "Folios" as he as dubbed them (since they are unique in their presentation), among them "Gestures of a Primitive Mind", "Made of Steel", "October Seas" and "Fort Worden Wall Abstractions". In addition to his photographic work, he is the Editor of LensWork, a monthly publication in both fine printed hardcopy and the "LensWork Extended" version on DVD. Each edition of Lenswork Extended (at this writing, extended number 74 is the current edition) includes an impeccably produced, autoplaying PDF file with several photographers profiled (with accompanying audio interviews) and other goodies. If you haven't seen Lenswork or LensWork Extended, please go to either of the sites. A broadband Internet connection is definitely needed for the "Extended Site", but well, well worth a visit.
CharlesCramer.com - What more need be said besides Charlie studied and worked with Ansel? Charlie's prints are available for sale at The Ansel Adams Gallery. His website has many more images to enjoy and inspire you. He is a great teacher as well as a distinguished photographer, author, and mentor. In December ('07) he released an updated version of his workshop guide and CD entitled "Photoshop Techniques - Efficient and Effective Techniques to Optimize Images". It is available directly from him through his website.
Outback Photo - Website of Bettina and Uwe Steinmueller, artists, authors, publishers, technicians, and a great couple. Uwe and Bettina introduced me to Blurb.com during a four day workshop in November of 2007 at Zion National Park which he co-instructed with Alain Briot and Charlie Cramer. Outback Photo is a vey well organized wealth of technical information with reviews, tutorials, essays, test results on equipment and supplies, links to deals on equipment and a great Resources page. Check out their Bios here and one of their several books "California Earthframes". The book is unique in that text accompanying the imagery is written in both English and German on each page. It's a very beautiful collaboration of a wide range California locations. Uwe and Bettina have several books they have published on Blurb.com.
The Luminous Landscape - Website of Michael Reichman, an expert in large, medium, and DSLR format photography, has hundreds of pages of essays written by himself and many other world-class photographers on the site including Alain Briot, Jim Chow, Nick Devlin, Miles Hecker, Mike Johnston, Ralph Lange, Pete Meyers, Nick Rains, Mark Segal, Chris Sanderson, and Uwe and Bettina Steinmueller. In addition, many downloads are available including training DVDs, tutorials, and Vodcasts. There is a very active forum, product reviews, and workshops & seminars announcements. His monthly video magazine, the LL Video Journal, is a must have for its interviews with contemporary photographic luminaries including Charlie Cramer, Bill Atkinson, Brooks Jensen and many others. Editions of The Journal are available for immediate download in QuickTime format. The interviews he conducts with these and other photographers are filled with information and inside tips on workflow, techniques and general information that, presented in the video format, is a great way to further one's knowledge of landscape photography and fine art printing. Michael's collobration with Jeff Schewe on "From Camera to Print - Fine Art Printing" is a set of videos detailing the entire workflow of digital capture and printing. It is an incredible "deal" at $34.95 as it is almost seven hours of instruction. Mr Schewe, an renowned expert in photography and Photoshop, with his very engaging video presence covers a significant amount of Adobe's Lightroom techniques in the video set as well.
